Castle Rock Swim Through

Cape Town Freediving Clip of the Week 1:

Martin and John headed out to Castle Rock on Friday 29 April 2022 hoping to find decent conditions after a week of variable conditions. They found reasonably flat water, but with a bit of rolling swell still around. The water was clean and a cool 13 degrees. There were quite a few big Red Roman swimming around as well as pyjama sharks and nudibranchs. Take a look at the clip below!

This dive site is within the Castle Rock Restricted Zone which spans from Millers Point down to Partridge Point. This is part of the Table Mountain National Park Marine Protected Area and is in a no-take zone. Castle Rock is great for teaching both the Adventure I and Adventure II freediving courses as there is depth of up to 15m and the area is rich with marine life. The area has several swim throughs, but this one can be found on the southern end of the large rocky outcrops. The exact location is marked with a red star on the image below. It is a reasonably small swim through which a freediver should be able to pass through without damage to themselves or the marine life in the tunnel, but it might be too narrow for scuba divers.
